An interesting concept, and one that showed much potential, but overall fell flat.My first guess was that Steve was a schizophrenic or had multiple personality disorder - I think this would have been a more more interesting turn of events, considering Jeannie's research into criminality and nature vs. nurture. Could someone who appeared good have the capabilities to do evil? I guess that was the author's point throughout the novel, anyway, but I wish he would have delved deeper into the nature

Having read and enjoyed Eye of the Needle and The Pillars of the Earth, I had high hopes for a contemporary genetics-based thriller. In the first chapter I began to wonder if this was actually written by someone else. The dialogue is awful, trivial, and character development is one dimensional. The scene descriptors are non-existent.

Wow, what a big disappointment. There were so many times the plot was convoluted and implausible, no verisimilitude at all. It felt like a very bad version of a James Patterson novel, and I like Pattersons books. Maybe because it was read by January Levoy who reads Patterson books. I have to say I stayed with it even though I wanted to quit because so much of the main characters actions were so ridiculous. I hate this book, it was nothing like any of Ken Folletts' books. I really tried to like this but the amount of nonsensical plot devices got in the middle.It gets really ridiculous to the point of no return, you can easily compare it with a B-Movie (where B would stand for BAD). I've read some reviewers say the problem was the book didn't date very well, but I can hardly believe this could have been considered good at some point.
