I had no idea this was a series. And apparently each book focuses on a different couple. So even though some characters may reappear, you can read them as stand alones (or at least, this one could). I did get the feeling that I was missing out on some backstory, which is when I looked it up and realized that some of the characters are in previous books and have history.The romance element is a little strong for me. The book seems standalone until end and takes very important persons from earlier book Crescent Moon (Nightcreature #4).
