Evaluation About Books Jane and the Wandering Eye (Jane Austen Mysteries #3)

The first book in this Jane Austin as detective series was somewhat interesting, especially in its evocation of Jane Austin's style. This third book in the series, however, was a chore to slog through. Barron, who managed to capture Austin's sense of wit in the first book, manages to completely avoid any wit at all in this one. I read it quickly to get to the end, but by the time I got there, I had lost interest in who the murderer was or what the motive for his actions was. I don't think I need

3.5 starsFun read, particularly for serious Jane Austen fans. I enjoy the style and language but found the plot (as can be the case in historical cozies) somewhat over-complex. I may not read the entire series but I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another if I was in the mood for this genre.

I really like this series. I'm a big fan of Jane Austen and enjoy the concept of her being an "amateur detective." I didn't have a clue as to who the killer was, but it all made sense in the end. The witticisms throughout the book remind me very much of Austen's writing. I definitely recommend these books to others who like Jane Austen and enjoy a good cozy mystery. :)

This entire series is FAB! The ultimate reading for mystery readers who also adore Jane Austen and history. Barron entwines Jane in mysteries set in the exact location where Jane was at that time. Each mystery 'could' have occurred. The research into Jane's personal life, rules and habits of the time, real locations at that time, etc, make these books so realistic, and so enjoyable. This was an interesting diversion. I think it will be a while before I read another in the series because they take me a while to really get into them. Nonetheless, they are enjoyable once I commit to them.
