The Adventure of the Norwood Builder (Sherlock Holmes Chronicles #46)
'I loved to read the newspaper, hoping to find some news of an interesting crime for me to investigate or a dangerous criminal for me to catch. Where are all those clever criminals these days?'
Then, suddenly, a wild, excited young man runs up the stairs to Holmes' room. He has a story to tell about a strange crime that took place in Norwood. But who is the criminal? And is he dangerous? Life, for Holmes, suddenly starts to get interesting.
This story was in my high school Literature book and I later saw and liked the BBC version. In this story Holmes goes undercover to get the facts and solve the case. I won't put any spoilers here, but its worth reading.
Petty revenge leads a man to destroy the woman who spurned him in his youth. Thankfully, Holmes' brilliant deductions spares the innocent from lasting harm. For all his insistence on cold facts, Holmes never passes up an opportunity for a flamboyant reveal.
At the crux! This was a story that has more to do and less to say. This story has potential, power, progress, but is also predictable.Crime fictions are like a fire cracker, which have a long thread; the thread burns gradually and after many twist and swirls - BOOB. But just envisage that you have gawked that BOOB so many time that it now merely a cliche, under your perspective; that is where a story becomes predictable.Nevertheless, the text level was, yet again, wonderful, and the story also
The second short story in The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. A young man has the police after him, but he talks to Sherlock Holmes before they charge him with murder. Holmes is one the case to prove the man's innocence. An entertaining mystery.
Predictable but still better than many other books of this series.
It was all a joke then, huh?! Well then, why did he go to the trouble of putting the fingerprint of the poor guy in the middle of the night just to pin the crime on him?! I so wanted Sherlock to ask him that question. God! The nerve of some people. This was a fun and quick read.
