I thought this book was very GOOD! I love how Barbara Park had Jake have so much inner thinking, it made my really feel his emotion. Another thing I really liked about this book was, that there were multiple problems in this book like when Skelly got lost. That was probably my favorite part! it was so interesting to here how Jake experienced this problem. I loved this book!
The Graduation of Jake Moon by Barbara Park was a great story written from the view of an eighth grader. That eight grader, Jake Moon grew up with his mother and especially his grandfather by his side. He cherished his grandfather, Skelly for pushing him to always keep his chin in the air. Skelly was known by many in the local area as a wise man that took the time to make everyone feel important and loved. Unfortunately, Jake had to grow up faster than most of the kids in his classroom, because
This was a read aloud for my 5th grade class ( which is why it took so long). It was the most realistic fiction juvenile novel I have heard/read in a few years. It was published in 2002, but still so relevant today. Alzheimers is a disease that affects the family more than the victim.
This book to me was sad because Jake loved his grandpa Skelly and looked up to him for advice and when he found out that his grandpa was sick with Alzheimers he didnt think at first it was a big deal but really it affected not only him but his whole family. In the beginning Jake let his friends make fun of his grandpa for the things that he did. Like when he had Aaron over and his grandpa didnt have on pants then Aaron went to school and Jake was teased by all of his classmates. Jake as time

Interpretation Supposing Books The Graduation of Jake Moon
Life hasn't been the same for Jake Moon since his grandfather, Skelly, got Alzheimer's disease. At first Jake thought, no big deal, it was just a disease that made old people forget where they put their car keys. But he was wrong. It is a big deal. A very big deal. For one thing, he can't invite friends over because Skelly might do something embarrassing like tell them to zipper their "briskets," or Jake might reach into the freezer for a can of frozen orange juice and find Skelly's frozen pajamas there instead. He used to love spending time with his grandfather...but now he is mostly stuck fastening the Velcro on Skelly's sneakers, or wiping rice off his chin. It's like all of a sudden he's the grown-up, and Skelly's the kid. How can the one person Jake could always count on be fading as fast as -- well, as the moon.Barbara Park, one of today's most popular and versatile authors, has created a funny, honest, and unforgettable portrait of a boy struggling to understand this debilitating disease and graduate to a more sympathetic and accepting relationship with his beloved grandfather.
