Ilustration To Books The Lonely Dead (Straw Men #2)
An electrifying thriller from the author of the international bestsellerThe Straw Men.A guilty man walks alone into the cold mountain forests of Washington State, aiming never to return. What he finds there starts a chain of events that will quickly spiral out of control.
Meanwhile in Los Angeles a woman's body is discovered, sitting bolt upright in a motel bedroom. She is dead, and her killer has left his mark. It soon becomes clear he has something to say, and a lot more work to do.
And Ward Hopkins, an ex-CIA agent recovering from the recent shocking death of his parents, is on the trail of his past, tracking down the men who destroyed everything he once held dear, and the murderer whose face he sees every time he looks in the mirror.
These three are ominous strands in a web of deadly secrets, roads to a dark history that should never have been told. There are people who will do anything to protect it. Anything at all. It's not a matter of who dies. We're all going to die.
What matters is who dies last.
Michael Marshall's unique voice adds a chilling intensity to the serial-killer plot, combining dazzling narrative, a white-hot pace and a deeply disturbing backdrop of conspiracy.

So my re-read continued and of course I had to go next for Book Two of The Straw Men Trilogy The Lonely Dead and very shortly I will be immersed back into Book Three Blood of Angels. After the events of The Straw Men we find Ward in hiding, drifting from place to place and occasionally attempting to find out more about his background. Meanwhile John is pursuing some dangerous people but who are the most dangerous them or John himself? The only other person Ward trusts, Nina, is having her ownPart 2 of the "Straw Men" trilogy is a real humdinger! If you have read Straw Men, you really need to read this! On to the third.
Fresh take on the murder mystery/serial killer genre. Conspiracy theories and ancient esoteric organizations abound.
Another fast-paced and creepy thriller featuring the characters from The Straw Men. Highly enjoyable, with a nice lightness of touch and wry wit.
I sure as heck hope this book is not anywhere close as to what they are saying has been going on for 100's of years as a group.....kind of creepy. I won't go back to read the first one, this was the second book at it was weird enough.Plus I didn't like how it jumped around everywhere.
The Straw Men trilogy is one of the most valuable items of my library. This series is very special to me. It is very unfortunate that it still does not have a Turkish version. (If there is a publishing house considering publishing Michael Marshall (Smith) in Turkish, I would be happy to translate. For whom it may concern.)The Lonely Dead is the second book in the series. (If you wish to read it in order... Though you would like it anyway, even if you read it in the wrong order, I myself started
Very disappointing follow-up to The Straw Men, which I enjoyed immensely. It seemed to wander all over the place like a plot in search of a good story, but I kept reading in the hope that it would surprise me. Unfortunately, it only got worse and by the last few chapters, I felt it had become so fantastical and unbelievable that it was all I could do to bother finishing it.
