Criticize Out Of Books The Moon Field
George is just eighteen years old, lives with his parents and his younger siblings Ted and Lilly when he first met Violet during his deliveries as a postman. Violet was out for a walk taking photos as an escape from her duties, mainly being a companion to her sick mother The difference in their lives couldnt be greater but George was bowled over by her beauty decides to give her one of the watercolours he has painted. Unknown to George as he hurried along to meet Violet the post he has to

I'm going to have to read this again as I so enjoyed it that I rushed through it - next time I'll savour the descriptions more. A thoughtful book using the items found in a soldier's tin box after his death as the chapter headings eg a dance card. So sad to think of all those women at home waiting for their loves who never returned but also for the young boys who lied about their age to enlist thinking it would be an adventure but ended up horrifically wounded both physically and mentally.

Judith Allnatt's account of George Farrell as a young soldier during World War I is a bit of a mixed bag. It's not badly written, but at times it felt a bit mid-market, middle aged women's, slightly disposable romance. The setting was well realised and on the whole, the dialogue seemed realistic, but there was something missing for me, which I find hard to put my finger on.Perhaps it was the very linear plot - George fancies girl who's out of his class, goes away to war, gets injured, comes home

"I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads"This beautifully written book is a delight to read especially if, like me, you find the world of a hundred years ago to be kinder poignant and romantic. I really enjoyed the writing style, and how easy it was to read and follow. I read it in a matter of days. Now normally I'm not one for books related to World War II or any of the wars for that matter, so I was quietly surprised at just how much I got into and enjoyed this book. So

Tender and touching, with great insight.

From my review:'World War 1 has been written about extensively. So much so, that standard comments and assertions are made about the war and about the thoughts and feelings of the general Tommy. Admittedly, it must be difficult to write in an original way about how young boys were keen to join up and fight for King and Country and how they all thought it would be 'over by Christmas'. But this entire novel is an example of writing that does not descend into cliché, and instead strives for

The Moon Field made me question for the first time why I know so little about my grandfathers, both of whom fought in the First World War and returned uninjured. I dont know whether they enlisted or were forced to go and what were their jobs whilst there. I have got out their photos. I want to seebeyond the man in uniform to see what they were feeling when the photo was taken so thank you Judith for awaking in me a curiosity that was shamefully lacking. The Moon Field is a story of fascinating
