SUMMARY OF AUTHOR, BOOK NOWkathy acker is the vicious successor to william s. burroughs: twisted master of the cut-up technique, postmodern doyenne, a romantic and nihilistic and clear-eyed uber-feminist, punk dyke (kinda), giddy regurgitator of scifi/horror/erotica tropes, transgressive misanthrope, a sophisticated and shamelessly political word-terrorist disguised as a reductive, barbaric, apolitical anarchist. Empire of the Senseless is, in my opinion, her uneasy and imperfect masterwork. if
Conflicted about this book but ultimately gave it four stars. I love the setting and the character Abhor, as well as an Acker novel with a bit of a conventional plot, but was a bit put off by the way Acker has some sort of ridiculous contempt towards Abhor, the best character in the book. Like classic Acker, it inevitably leaves you dividedwhich I believe is always her goal.
Dull. Experimentalism for its own sake justified by a lot of politico-academic blather.
This is a beguiling and intense book, reminiscent of Samuel Delaney's "Dhalgren" (and "Hogg") crossed with William Burroughs. Paris is a dystopian city and Abhor is on a quest of violence, sex and obsession. Acker is a frustrating writer, bludgeoning you with transgressive holes (that lose potency after so much repetition - which is kind of the point) and then opening the space to absolutely poetic prose. It's difficult, not for the faint of heart and probably brilliant.

Interpretation Toward Books Empire of the Senseless
Set in the near future, in a Paris devastated by revolution and disease, Empire of the Senseless is narrated by two terrorists and occasional lovers, Thivai, a pirate, and Abhor, part-robot part-human. Together and apart, the two undertake an odyssey of carnage, a holocaust of erotic. "An elegy for the world of our fathers," as Kathy Acker calls it, where the terrorists and the wretched of the earth are in command, marching down a road charted by Genet to a Marseillaise composed by Sade.Specify About Books Empire of the Senseless

This book is horrible. I picked it up because of the story's interesting post-apocalyptic description and the comparisons to Burroughs but NOPE.Here's a quick excerpt (I'm ruining nothing for you):"When I got home, which was like every other home, my love was waiting for me. She wasn't dead, yet. She looked like a piece of red and dead meat. It was St Valentine' Day.She wasn't dead. 'I'm on your meat line now,' I told her.'You're what I make you,' Abhor said."This isn't out of context - there isI mean I guess it's... poetic?
