Ilustration Conducive To Books Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World: Finding Intimacy with God in the Busyness of Life

With nearly a million copies sold, Joanna Weaver's popular book shows women how to blend intimacy with Jesus and service for Him.

An invitation for every woman who feels she isn't godly enough...isn't loving enough...isn't doing enough. The life of a woman today isn't really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord's feet...but the daily demands of a busy world just won't leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him...yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.

Then comes Jesus, right into the midst of your busy Mary/Martha life-and he extends the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters of Bethany. Tenderly he invites you to choose "the better part"-a joyful life of "living-room" intimacy with him that flows naturally into "kitchen service" for him.

How can you make that choice? With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story and its creative, practical strategies, Joanna shows how all of us -Marys and Marthas alike- can draw closer to our Lord, deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.

This book includes a twelve-week Bible study.

Crit Of Books Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World: Finding Intimacy with God in the Busyness of Life
Read for a women's Bible study group. Quite pertinent in this world of easy distraction.

I first thought " how could there be a whole book on this topic??", but the author provides so much more...like how important it is to have a daily relationship with the Lord. I love how she talks about not giving God what you want you think He wants you to give, but rather being like Mary, She came to Jesus with everything she had(a vessel of fragrance) and poured it on His feet. She didn't just use enough to clean Him, or enough to get the job done, but she broke open the container to give ALL,

The premise and scripture that supports taking time for God is right-on, but the style of writing and journaling is not for me. And I still don't understand how things get done if we don't take the time to do them.

A wonderful book for any Christian Woman to read is Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. This powerful book details the differences between Martha and Mary, the two sisters of Lazarus in the bible. Martha is described as the original Martha Stewart, the New Testaments Proverbs 31 woman, and Israels answer to Betty Crocker. She is busy serving and preparing for Jesus, while Mary worships and listens at the feet of Jesus. While both roles are important, the purpose of the book

A great little study. I've gone through it twice in our ladies Bible study now.

There are things to be gotten out of this book, but it's definitely too Protestant for me to feel comfortable with it entirely. Again, I didn't finish the book.----one-star below, October 1, 2007Not really something I would choose to read. Vassi asked whether anyone had read it, so I got it from the library to review for her. I had to return it to the library before I finished the last chapter and a half, as someone else had requested it.Things I liked: The concrete what-to-do blurbs suggesting

Lines that I loved from this book:Have you ever tried to do it all? I have, I do, and I probably always will. Its not only in my nature; its also in my job description and yours, too. Being a woman requires more stamina, more creativity, and more wisdom than I ever dreamed as a young girl. And thats not just for todays busy women. It has always been the case. With everything still left to do, there sits little Mary, being quite contrary, crashing a party meant only for men. But worse, she seems
