Explanation Concering Books Westminster Confession Of Faith w/ Catechisms (1646-7) (and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms, Directories for Public and Private Worship, Form of Presbyterial Church Government, the Sum of Saving Knowledge)

The Westminster Confession of Faith is the greatest of all the creeds of the Christian Church. Since its first publication in 1646 it has remained absolutely unsurpassed as an accurate and concise statement of Christian doctrine. Among all the shifting sands of theological opinion here is solid truth, for it has its foundation in the unchanging truth of Scripture--witness the copious references from the Bible which are printed on each page. Because of its faithfulness to Scripture the Confession has permanent worth and abiding relevance.

The Church of Christ cannot be creedless and live. Especially in an age of doubt and confusion, it is her duty to define the Christian faith and to proclaim it to the world. Nowhere has the Reformed Church done this so effectively as in The Westminster Confession of Faith. While always recognising the supreme place of the Word of God in all matters of faith and practice, one can always turn to the Confession as one's subordinate standard. Here readers will find spiritual treasure; here too they will find comfort and strength.

Also contained in this volume are the magnificent Larger and Shorter Catechisms, The Sum of Saving Knowledge, The National Covenant, The Solemn League and Covenant, The Directory for the Public Worship of God, The Form of Presbyterial Church Government, and The Directory for Family Worship.

Crit Epithetical Books Westminster Confession Of Faith w/ Catechisms (1646-7) (and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms, Directories for Public and Private Worship, Form of Presbyterial Church Government, the Sum of Saving Knowledge)
Superb. I thought the 1689 London Confession was brilliant, but this is even better.

In a world of subjective truth claims, the Westminster Assembly has grounded solid interpretation of God's word for the body of Christ. Next to the Bible, I recommend this as a second book to read that is read on some kind of continual basis, for every Christian.

i actually enjoyed reading this book. it really helped me cement my faith in Jesus Christ. i now know why i believe what i believe. i loved the proof texts in this book -- if i was ever unsure about something i was able to read commentary or use Scripture to help me understand.

It's part of my church constitution. Excellent reading with a wealth of information.

First penned in 1646, this confession of faith has been a standard summary of doctrine and practice for many Reformed Protestant traditions. Having grown up non-denominationally and formally trained to be skeptical of confessions and traditions, my journey into and through church history and its documents is one of discovery, sometimes to horror, but often to delight. I do find the confessions of the Protestant tradition delightful, and the Westminster is in many ways the greatest of them. If

An accurate and concise statement of Christian doctrine.
